There’s nothing Grace doesn’t know something about: false statements, missions
to kill, stolen kisses and vicious deaths. The story initially comes across as a simple story of a small-town menace who leaves a trail of gore in his wake, using anything from the Okapi to high-end explosives. But then a brainwave hits as one thumbs through the pages that the only simple thing about this tale is the reading of it. This is as a result of the flawless wordsmithery of Maruping Phepheng, which gives this work all the twists and turns that are the hallmark of a great novel. Acts of crime, deceit, greed and glimpses of compassion unfold under the sleepy but watchful eyes of Grace and her little ones. The choice of narrator is a stroke of genius!
Maruping Phepheng has written five books – What Happens In Hankaroo… (2013), Of Anger and Revenge (2014), Nightfall (2015), Tlhokaina (2016), and Grace (2017). His poems and short stories appear in leading publications. He holds a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing (Rhodes University). He stays with his wife, Palesa, and son, Teko, in Witbank, Mpumalanga.
